Mall Lock-In 2009

Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland welcomed more than 700 girls and 300 adults on April 25, 2009 to the annual Mall Lock-In event at Richland Mall.  A wide variety of exciting activities were offered, from corn hole, to rock wall climbing, to a giant slide.

A local DJ was on hand to provide music, and a professional dancer gathered the girls together for a fun hip-hop lesson.  A large number of girls took advantage of the opportunity to try out their voice at the karaoke station.  Cosmetologists were on hand to offer free hair styling and nail painting.

Numerous retailers extended their store hours, offering the girls an opportunity to be a “night owl” shopper.  The Girl Scout resource store, Juliette’s Treasures had a booth at which the girls could purchase special “Girls Night Out” T-shirts.   Most of the mall stores offered sales and some offered special activities for the girls.

Craft tables, sponsored by area troops, gave girls the opportunity to scrapbook, make snow cones, and participate in other fun activities during the early pre-dawn hours while most of the community was fast asleep.  By 6:00 a.m. the girls and adults were exhausted but headed home with plenty of great Girl Scout memories and filled with anticipation for next year’s Mall Lock-In event.
